Ultrasound, or diagnostic medical
sonography, involves the
application of high-frequency
sound waves to a patient. The
sound waves produce an image
that helps physicians make a
diagnosis.
Ultrasound is used in obstetrics
& gynecology, and to diagnose
cardiac and vascular systems,
the abdomen, and superficial
structures.
