Respiratory Therapist

Saskatoon Health CareersRespiratory Therapists assist physicians in
diagnosing, treating and managing patients
with cardiopulmonary and associated disorders. 

Services provided by Respiratory Therapists
include cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
ventilator management, oxygen and aerosol
therapy, patient assessment and evaluation, and
diagnostic services including pulmonary function
testing and blood analysis. RTs may also be
involved in research, education, administration
and management.

Respiratory Therapists typically work in hospitals,
medical clinics, long-term or extended care facilities, and public health centres.

 

Training

What: 
Diploma or Degree in Respiratory Therapy

Where: 
Diploma - Various community technical institutes e.g. SAIT
Degree – Various Universities in Canada (see CRST website below)

How Long: 
Diploma – 3 years
Degree – varied length (1 – 4 years dependent on pre-requisites)

Entrance Requirements: 
Diploma - High School Diploma (minimum average 60%) in each of: English A30 or B30, Math A30 and B30, Chemistry 30, and Biology 30.
